Great book, exactly what I needed. I'm pretty good with Sendmail, but there is nothing like just looking up an issue and following through a solution. I would recommend this to anyone who works with Sendmail!

This is the bible for SendMail administrators. comprehensive commands and references from routine to advaced commands covered. I used it for years as a cheat sheet.

This is definitely a book for systems administrators. You won't learn the basics about sendmail, or get an introduction. This book is for folks who generally know sendmail, but are having specific issues with it.The first chapter has a lot of very specific fixes for a bunch of operating system specific issues. After that the solutions become a bit more general.The two standout chapters are chapter four, on relaying, and chapter six on spam filtering. Both of these have great introductions and in-depth techincal descriptions, with effective graphics, covering the topics.I recommend this book for systems administrators and for people actively using with sendmail.

Over this time, sendmail has become a fully fledged language, with a very inelegant syntax. He tells you enough to handle these common issues. Sometimes, this comes at a slight cost. For example, he never really fully explains the the sendmail class notation. For a rigorous explanation, you still need Allman's book. But as a practical matter, you probably not that curious about the notation anyway. Hunt's approach may solve your problems quicker!An interesting aspect of this Cookbook is that it shows the recent evolution of sendmail, as seen in the subtitle at the top of the cover, "Spam-Fighting". Sysadmins who dealt with sendmail from 5 years ago or earlier will recall nothing pertaining to antispam techniques.But just as email was the first killer application, the second killer application was the browser, starting in 1992-3. The third killer application was spam, often viewed via the second application. In the last 5 years, spam has grown amazingly. So much so that it has been debated on the floors of the US Parliament! It has gotten to the point that some alarmists are even claiming that this third killer app might be crippling the first app!Well, this Cookbook has several sections, including an entire chapter, focussed on various antispam techniques, like procmail parsing, or hooking up to Real Time Block Lists like spamhaus.org. The efficacy of such methods may vary widely, but you do get a choice. Though none of these currently appear to offer a truly effective countermeasure. You are still getting tons of spam, aren't you?Perhaps some genius in the not too distant future can help us!

Working with sendmail can be very challenging at times; while the documentation for it is very complete, finding real-life use-cases can be tough and messing up a configuration is very easy. The book is organized in typical Cookbook fashion; each chapter or section stands on it's own, and if it does require knowledge of other sendmail configuration topics, the section includes cross-references to other relevant recipies and references to appropriate sections in the "Sendmail: The Definitive Guide" book, which is a nice additional feature.This cookbook starts with recipies that step the reader through building and installing sendmail, with sections on configuring the build so that sendmail compiles with SSL/STARTTLS support, LDAP support, and SASL support. Chapters that follow deal with everything from enabling and configuring SMTP AUTH, to securing sendmail itself, to controlling spam. Recipies use m4 whenever possible and only dip into the sendmail configuration language when necessary, another feature I found very impressive.I own quite a few O'Reilly books; this is one of a small number that I enjoy just picking up and flipping to a random page and reading; I always find something that I either didn't know or had forgotten. I wish I had this book seven years ago when I was struggling to learn the basics of sendmail configuration and administration; I might have more hair left if I had! I highly recommend this book to anyone who works with sendmail, be that daily administration or occassional troubleshooting.

Jeremy Birn’s Digital Lighting and Rendering is a masterful treatise on digital lighting and, in my opinion, a must have on your bookshelf if you’re a 3d artist. While the text is clearly aimed at pre-rendered art, for example in animated movies or live-action effects, most of the concepts are fundamental enough to apply to lighting real-time scenes in games, or even more traditional art mediums. I found the pace to be good, and lots of important areas are covered. The chapter list includes lighting design, shadows and occlusion, environments and architecture, characters, cameras, composition, the science of color, rendering algorithms, textures, layers, production pipelines, and an appendix for getting a job in the industry. Though there are lots of books that cover specific topics or software packages (such as modeling in Maya), it’s more difficult to find higher-level books that focus on the fundamentals. Of course, it’s important to understand the tools you are using, but without a solid foundation you will likely end up making avoidable mistakes.My interest is definitely in real-time rendering, so many of the topics were not directly relevant. However, I do have some experience with pre-rendered content creation, mostly noticeably during my time in art school, and some of the topics here were even beyond what I learned getting a 4 year degree. I will say that the material would be most apt for people doing film, and the book is certainly catering to that audience. However, in my case, I find a lot of the real-time books to be too narrowly focused on the algorithms and maths and not enough time is spent telling you how to use those methods to produce quality art. So I like looking at other sources to get a different perspective. Even in games there is some crossover, for example in cut-scenes or making promotional images, so the knowledge can still be useful. All-in-all I enjoyed the book and I would highly recommend it to any current or aspiring 3d artist.

If you're a hobby 3D graphhics artist or thinking of entering into the world of computer graphics, then this book is an essential resource to give you that realism factor often missing in artists works seen today.The Book is superbly presented in glossy paper format with excellently reproduced colour images that generously fill the book as examples of how to achieve the right lighting for that perfect shot you were trying to setup but till now had no idea of how to achieve it.This volume is a how to for novice and advanced artist alike, brilliantly guiding you through the ins and outs of rendering the most perfectly realisticly shaded 3D image possible.Chapters guide you through Lighting workflow, three point lighting, Shadows (a must),Qualities of light, Colour, Exposure, Composition and staging (worth the price of the book alone), Materials and rendering algorithms(tips to turn a good work into a masterpiece)and Compositing(the absolute icing on the cake).There is a Lot one can learn from this volume and dare I say that it has to be if not the best then one of the very best presentations on this topic I've ever had the good fortune to study from.

Reviewers all over the internet have raved about this book for years and I was not disappointed when I finally purchased it last month. It truly is a "bible" in the digital graphic & animation industry.The author makes the information general enough so that it is useful no matter what software you use. As an Architect, my interest in 3d digital rendering is to create realistic photos of my unbuilt designs. However, I found the author's information on composing, lighting, and rendering animated characters (which seems to be the author's main focus) incredibly helpful in fulfilling my goals. Birn's approach is thorough and no-nonsense.

If only all the documentation for 3D software were written like this clear and concise book. I don't know why but the books I've read on 3D tend to leave me more frustrated than any area of learning that I've undertaken. It's a complex subject but some authors seemed determined to make it harder than it is. Not Mr. Birn. He explains not just how to do something but why. The added bonus is that the information is platform agnostic. He seems to cover a lot of the different terms software companies use to describe the same processes and he candidly assesses their value in the finished work. There a plenty of clear color renderings that show the subtle differences that are the difference between good and great. Worth every penny.

The 2nd edition was already an outstanding book. I'm just an amateur in 3D but Birn's work has been immensely helpful to clarify lot of things I had heard about but never seen in detail.The book gives a good look at the many aspects of the 3D rendering process without going too deep into technicalities : as such, it is a fitting read for beginners and intermediate users alike.I'm re-reading the 3rd edition right now, I really liked the part related to the linear workflow (gamma correction), which to be honest had always puzzled me a bit in the past, but here it is explained with good clarity.I definitely recommend this book, especially if you are just beginning your exploration into 3D. It will give you a first background of knowledge and put you on the right path.

Well, there is some good information in this item. I wonder who, if anyone that can effectively communicate in English, proofread this thing. The "book" is chock full of incomplete sentences, misuse of terms, and poor grammar for crying out loud. An actual sentence from the book: "Even though R-134a was made to replace R-12 since the oils do not mix a retrofit has to be done" . What, I mean I get the intent but really, that kind of grammar and punctuation in a published book? Perhaps I'm too critical especially in a technical publication, but come on man! With a copyright year of 2014, one would think at least the temperature/pressure chart would include R410a because of its wide use these days. My recommendation is search the internet for other sources and free practice exams, and spend your money on quality tools to do the work. And H. Benetti, whoever you are, I would be more than happy to proofread the next edition for you, free of charge. On second thought, I would do it for $8.54.

This is the first review I've ever taken time to leave on an Amazon product. I wouldn't normally take time doing this but I felt I would do a diservice if I didn't.I opened the package and quickly realized the book was WAY smaller than I'd anticipated. I shrugged that off and decided to give it a read anyway. I noticed the first spelling error about a couple pages in. Then the grammar and spelling got worse.. I felt like I was reading a book put together by a child in elementary school. The thoughts and format is all over the place. After I decided to push on, I realized that the second half of the pages weren't even fastened in the ridge of the book. The damn pages were falling out as I read on! The temperature-pressure chart in the back was even crooked on the page. I also noticed in the back that it was printed the day I ordered it! Haha! If it was food then it'd be fresh haha but it's a damn book.DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. Waste of money..

This study guide is the bomb most of questions on the test are on the actual test just reworded. Can't miss with this book. Passed my universal and this book and the mainstream practice tests was all I used.

I bought this book with high hope,but it lacks clarity,and information necessary to pass the exam.i highly recommend the EPA 608 app from the government agency very highly-for Android users.i passed with 87% for universal certification after practicing hundreds of questions in that app.

Really needs some editing. As a complete neophyte I did manage to figure out that "containments" should have been "contaminants". It's rife with basic grammar and diction mistakes, which make it difficult to read at many points. The test questions at the end included some material that was not presented in the prep guide (e.g. R-113).I like the format with questions at the end of sections in addition to the practice test at the end. I hope the author gets an editor and issues a revision.

I didn't realize what little information would be contained in this book. I was disappointed by the small number of sample questions. I do not recommend this pamphlet.

Somewhat disappointed, editing was very poor. Gramar and spelling mistakes through out. More sample questions would be better.

Another motivational tool for my classroom library. Several boys didn't want to participate in D.E.A.R. time because they "can't find anything to read." So, I came to Amazon and started looking through titles. Matt Christopher popped up as an author of books with a sports theme and I bought several. They were all popular.

Overall I loved reading this book. I never wanted to put the book down because I was always so glued to the book and the action in it. The book had accurate descriptions of all motocross bikes and riding techniques. This is very important to me because I felt like I could connect to the book. Throughout the entire story they were twists and turns that made it almost impossible to stop reading. You always feel connected to the characters. The overall premise of the book was sad but made for an amazing plot. If you are a adrenaline junkie who also enjoys a quick read, I would suggest this book immensely. It always keeps you guessing and has the perfect amount of drama, action, comedy and adventure. I know the book says it's intended for ages 8 to 12 but people of all ages will find it entertaining. The book begins slow but rapidly picks up pace and is moving fast just a dirt bike railing a burm. I still cannot believe how accurate Matt Christopher captured the rush of riding. I could almost smell the exhaust. The book was written with just enough detail to place the image in your mind but still wonder about the next event. The bottom line is whether you ride or not, this is a great read and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a book that not only keeps you entertained that makes it feel as if you are with the main characters every step of the way. I have now read many Matt Christopher books and Dirt Bike Runaway is by far my favorite read by Matt Christopher.

This book is so great. I have issues having my boys read, but with this book it made them want to read,

My son loves dirt bikes and enjoyed this story. After finishing the book he donated it to his school so other kids can read it.

My daughter brought home this book for AR. Since she is reading more than three grade levels above her age, I watch carefully what she is getting into. I had a few concerns after reading the back cover and some of the info on Amazon, so I read the book myself before I let her dive in. I recommend you do the same if you are concerned about what your child reads.There are a number of themes/events that are a little concerning:- underage drinking- abuse of a teenager by other teenagers (including forcing another child to drink alcohol by physical force) and authority figures (headmaster of orphanage)- hotwiring a motorcycle (even though later we get the "innocent explanation" of how this teen knows how to do this)- glamorizing the life of a runaway and hitchhiking- teens involved in a theft ring (hubcaps, batteries, etc.) that try to coerce and threaten another teen into participating in their illegal activities.The reason that the boy runs away is eventually explained, but it seems to be done in such a way as to make it seem a very reasonable solution to the situation. I don't believe that children the age of the target audience would be able to discern the fact that this was a very poor and very dangerous solution to his problem. In fact, it turns out to be the best thing that ever happened to the main character - not a good message at all. The fact that this is written as such realistic fiction muddies this situation further for the young reader.On a more literary note, the extremely drawn out, jargon filled descriptions of the dirt bike races are likely be terribly tedious to anyone but the most avid dirt bike fans.UPDATE - 3/19/13When my daughter was first considering this book, she was 8 years old and in 2nd grade (included in the target audience age listed). Now that she is 10 and in 4th grade, I would be more likely to let her read this book but ONLY with my having read it as well so that we could discuss the key points that I referenced in my initial review. I still feel that it is better suited to a middle school audience (if then) and should be avoided in the primary grades.During the past few years, I have read much better written juvenile fiction, books that would be much more engaging for young men, and many that are less problematic thematically. There are better books out there if you are willing to put in the effort to find them.

I read these books when I was in fifth and sixth grade. They are all kind of formulaic and predictable to anyone 13 years of age and older but they are great for younger children. I recommend these books for child that you want to start reading more. They are easy reads and teach great lessons like team work, accepting differences in people and sportsmanship. They can really boost a child's confidence.

The discussions on injection techniques are well done especially for those using this for laboratory work. It helps the users better understand what and why they are doing certain procedures. The presentation provides a wealth of extensions into most of the techniques that one would see in a modern application. In addition there are excellent discussions on limitations and issues to be concerned about.Chapter 4 is a similar chapter discussing the issue of TLC. The discussion on two dimensional separations was especially useful and well developed.Chapter 5 extends the results to supercritical fluid chromatography.Chapter 6 is a discussion of Electrophoresis and similar techniques. Although this is often presented as a separate and stand-alone approach to separations the authors provide an excellent integration into a broad base of chromatographic applications.Chapter 7 is chromatography on a chip which is bringing the discussion up to current applications.Overall the book is exceptionally well done. The graphics are generally good and useful, and are in color. Some of them are a bit too small and make for confusing interpretation.The authors in the Preface state:The book aims to aid new users of chromatography, independent of background, to understanding the basics…Unfortunately, in my opinion, one should have had significant prior exposure to chromatography and have done some lab work in the area before using this book. The book is an excellent addition but not a primer. It does not pedagogically present the material in a logical manner. It does cover all of the major topics, basic and advanced. If one had been exposed before then this book helps bring everything into focus.I strongly recommend anyone doing chromatography to have a copy of this at hand. It gives great glimpses of insight. Yet it is not, in my opinion, a good introduction to the subject.
