I am so grateful to this author for writing down so many wonderful ideas for helping a person with dementia engage with their senses, their memories, the world around them, the people close to them. Many of the ideas are so simple and cost nothing, yet I hadn't thought of them. I think that reality of losing a deeper level of communication with my dear father made me feel somewhat helpless and paralyzed, and I wasn't able to recognize the little connections I could make every day with him.I love the patient, compassionate voice of this author, the very clear directions, and the myriad activities she presents. I am in the process of putting together an activity kit for my father, and I have used this book as my primary resource. FIVE stars for the content and the therapeutic effect this book has had on my life and my father's, but four stars for the Kindle version. I should have gotten the hardcopy of this one, as it would have been easier to "thumb" through. Also, the review sheets at the end of each chapter disrupt the flow in the Kindle version. Actually, I think I'll purchase the hardcopy right now. It's worth it.A huge thank you to Judith Levy for this terrific resource!

I have a parent and 2 aunts that have this awful disease. They are all in various stages in it's progression. I got this book for more ideas to help keep them safe and occupied. I also care for this type of person in a Long term care facility. Hopefully, I can use some of these ideas with them. If nothing else, I think this book will be good for reference.

My mother had passed away a few years ago and I wish I had read this book before she did. There are so many wonderul chapters that I could have used to make my moms last days more enjoyable. I especially liked the section on The Beauty Parlor. Weather a man or women all these activities would make those last years better. Now my mother in law is suffering from the beginning of Dementia and I plan to use this book to help her and the family get through this hard time. I really believe that Nursing homes shoud be recommending this book to families.

This is a great book. Each chapter is a quick read. I love that she explains why this activity- what it does for the person doing it. She also gives insight about what she saw with her own Mother while doing the activities. At the end of each quick read chapter there is an assessment page so you can keep notes on how your loved one responded. It is a well thought out book and I recommend it for anyone who has a loved one with dementia or Alzheimer's.

I only gave this a 3 star rating because the activities in the book I already do with my parents who both have Alzheimers. I was expecting something a little different and "out of the box" activities- other than what I already do. It may be helpful to others.

Judy's Book is a WONDERFUL resource! So EASY to follow and use. I am using it for homecare staff training and would encourage anyone who cares for an individual with dementia to buy it and USE IT!!! its a great addition to my library!

I teach third grade and although this book is written at a second grade level my students loved it. It's a quick read, but high interest with solid vocabulary throughout. Try the other books in the series if you have children who don't like reading.

My 6 year old grandson, who loves to ski, enjoyed the story.

Don't bother with this story if you actually have a little skier or are planning to teach your child to ski. The story is okay in so far as it encourages a child to stick with something they try and practice. But so far as the skiing information goes, this book was obviously churned out by someone who has never learned to ski and has no clue what goes on in downhill skiing, or even cross country for that matter! For example, it continually talks about using poles for children who have only been skiing 3 days by the end of the book; pushing off and pointing the skis straight down the mountain ( no, that's not how it's done), and referring to cross country as the easy way out! Even my first grader recognized this.

The book acknowledges the inevitable certainty of suffering in our lives and offers sound direction for finding comfort in the midst of it. It explores the purpose of such pain and ministers to those who have experienced it."What's Good About Feeling Bad" boldly confronts the painful issues that many of us either seek to ignore or to avoid and it helps us to make sense of the tragedies. It covers the very unpleasant subject in a very palatable way from a sound Biblical perspective. It does for the subject of suffering what James Dobson did for the subject of child rearing with "Dare to Discipline" in that it articulates important concepts in a practical and understandable way bringing the information off the higher shelf and putting it within the grasp of those who need to use it.After finishing this book, I bought a copy for my pastor. As a Clinical Pastoral Counselor for over 20 years I can honestly say this is one of the most informative books that I have read. The authors exhibit spiritual insight in the subject area of suffering. I found this to be very helpful in pulling together scriptures that are relevant to current financial and life trials. I enjoyed the pertinent illustrations and quotes. I can see that I will be quoting from this book to many Christian clients.

Subtitled "Finding Purpose and a Path through Your Pain," WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT FEELING BAD? delivers on the implied promise in that subtitle. John C. Thomas and Gary Habermas, both professors at Liberty University in Virginia, offer a wealth of information and practical help to people who are suffering.Openly acknowledging that suffering is one of the most serious challenges to religious belief, the authors tackle this difficult subject from biblical and counseling perspectives without ever dismissing or diminishing the very real barriers to faith that suffering presents. In the first of three sections, they confront the pain of suffering and lay the groundwork for the rest of the book by stating up front the five truths about suffering: it is universal, painful, personal, unnerving. However, there is meaning to suffering, they maintain, but God is under no obligation to give us a reason for our pain.In this section, they also look at the multiple sources of pain and suffering (such as the reality of living in a broken world) and offer encouragement by reminding us that God is always with us in our suffering.Section two looks at the purposes of pain, and here the book provides profound insights into how suffering shapes us --- the nitty-gritty about how feeling bad can work toward our good. Thomas and Habermas discuss in detail the concept of "soul-making," the development of our character through hardship. In these 15 chapters they demonstrate how suffering can turn us inward (by becoming more humble, for example), forward (by forcing us to mature, among other outcomes), outward (such as by serving others) and upward (by glorifying God and in other ways). The authors also rightly point out that much of our problem regarding the "benefits" of suffering stems from the fact that such a notion runs counter to Western thinking, while many Eastern cultures accept the idea without question.The final section offers a pathway through suffering, Thomas and Habermas note, rather than around it. They begin by urging readers to examine their beliefs about suffering and promptly demolish some of the myths associated with suffering --- myths that are held by Christians in particular --- such as the myth that truly spiritual people should never have to suffer and that simply reading the Bible will solve all their problems. The authors point out not only the folly of adhering to those myths but also the dangers inherent in that way of thinking. The answer to going through the process of suffering --- trusting God --- sounds simplistic, but here they also acknowledge how difficult that can be and how we can be deceived into thinking we're trusting God when we really aren't.As the authors point out, what matters most is not the suffering itself but our responses to it. "When you realize you are not in control, God is finally able to have control of your life. Take your 'why me?' mentality, turn it over to Him, and find the 'what for?' of your pain." You will put this book down with a better understanding of suffering and how the Lord wants us to learn and grow as we walk through each painful situation we encounter.Helping you understand the purpose of suffering is really the main purpose of this book. Breaking it down into sections the authors describe what the Lord desires for us to learn. Most important we need to learn to trust that He is doing it all for our good.Everything that is written in the book is helpful. I did think it got rather wordy sometimes. Meaning some of what is written is repeated again and again, not in the same words but still the same principles. Overall a good book for someone who is suffering through a hard experience and wants to better understand why the Lord allows bad things to happen.I gave this book 4/5 stars.I would like to thank ChristianReviewofBooks.com and the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. Although I haven't quite finished this WPA Guide, it is quite a good source of factual information on theState of S.C. in 1938. It does not "sugar coat" theattitudes of the day and "practices" being applied toeveryday living for all that lived in the State.A lot has changed and progressed, but somethings didnot change. Each reader will have to see the Stateas it is today to compare.

Excellent book on Americana, traveling, and history. Highly recommend the "Tour" section.

This book made the Hells Angels look like "Angels", I wanted to hear more juicy tales and this did not deliver. Some of the stories were good but not enough for me.

If you love 81 and the big Red Machine like I do, then this is REQUIRED reading! Sonny Barger is beyond a simple American Legend, he is what American Legends are made from. I can't really describe how great this book is, you just have to read it for yourself.

Well written. I enjoyed how Mr. Barger was able to pull events back to true reality vs other writer/authors (undercover ops now making a living from embellished writings). Thank you for a realistic accounting of history.

Well written, kept me interested throughout the entire book. Sonny takes you the reader from the beginning to beyond through his life as president of the Hell's Angels motorcycle club.

Sonny Barger is really full of himself. He's like the Donald Trump of motorcycle gangs. The writing is awful, it makes what could have been a really interesting book painful to read. The ghost writers should have done a lot more editing. I'm glad I got it on sale.

It's a great book. Simple, easy to read and understand. Those who were waiting for secrets and internal stuff from the club seem disapointed but to all these SOA wannabes, remember that unless you're a member, club business is none of your business. Therefore, not everything has to be told in the book. I enjoyed this book for the story through the 60's, 70's, 80's and all the crazy stuff that happened during these years. Long to ride forever free!

This is a fascinating book. I picked it up after seeing a documentary on tv about the HAMC & Sonny Barger. The best way to get the real story is to go straight to the source, and Sonny Barger is the source. You won’t be able to put this one down.
