Great book, very good read
Great book by the Sayed, lots of wisdom in these traditions, gave me the chance to acquaint myself with the Prophet Jesus pbuh. May Allah reward your efforts, looking forward for the next books.
At a time like no other, amidst growing tensions between the two major dominant religions of the world, there exists little effort in order to understand each other from a historical, theological standpoint. The prologue paints this beautifully, the 2014 visit of Grand Ayatollah Mohammad Taqi al-Modarresi with Pope Francis in joining against the fight to end modern slavery, shows signs of collaboration between the two major religions that would undoubtedly grow in future, and if you like, as the book would have, the quest in understanding these two major Prophets.The literature in appreciating the Quranic "Spirit of Allah" i.e. the muslim account of Jesus is scarce. This is a greatly welcome piece of work that appeals to the common lay reader, the style of the book is conversational, easy to read.Yes, calling the book "The Lost Testament", as the author himself says could be perceived to be "sacrilegious", but don't let that put you off.What is meant here is that the Islamic heritage on the son of Mary has been lost, albeit not just by Christians but by even Muslims themselves. The book uncovers narrations from Jesus transmitted through Prophet Muhammad or his (twelve) successors from classical Shi'i sources. The book is well structured, comprising completely of narrations of Jesus, with commentary. The chapters are divided into: Life, Spirituality, God, Society, The Church while the Appendix gives a brief introduction to Shia Islam. The books serves great as a quick read and also as a reference or manual to what Muslims would argue is the "biblical" way of life, or to live according to the true Gospel. Life lessons on morality, from command to "know yourself" to how to deal with criticism to recognizing the link between cash and clerics (religious or otherwise!)So why not 5 stars? Apart from me being a harsh critic when it comes to Islamic literature, I would have preferred there to be have seen verses from bible complemented with the narrations from Jesus in the commentary. Also, after finishing the reader is still wanting for more, perhaps on the Islamic biography of Jesus with Quranic analysis or what really happened after his death, the disciples and the second coming. The author hints to a follow-up book which I hope would incorporate some of these, along with gems of narrations - which, alone, are the focus and life of the text. Though as a quick read of less than 130 pages, it's a beautiful glimpse of one of God's most dearest and unique of creations.For those who are interested in finding more on the topic, also have a look at:Jesus Through the Qur'an and Shi'ite Narrations, Mahdi Muntazir Qaim
As someone interested in religions I am always looking for new ideas and fresh perspectives. It also helps if the language used is contemporary and relevant. This book delivers on both counts. In a way, it is a cry for reconciliation at a time of morbid anxiety. It is an appeal for peace and harmony at the most critical point in interfaith relations. But above all, it shows that Islam and Christianity have more in common than followers of either faith care to admit. Though not a practicing Christian anymore, I felt more drawn to Jesus after reading 'The Lost Testament' than I did during Eucharist! I would love to see the author delve deeper into his vision of Jesus' life. Highly recommended overall.
